Events

Mu Alpha Theta annually holds campus wide events including the Lock-In, Homecoming Jeopardy, Junior High Math Contest, and Clash of the Smart People. Descriptions are shown below.

Lock In

Every year, Mu Alpha Theta holds the most popular lock in on campus. For a full 4.5 hours, the student union, west gym, and pool are open to take a break from school and relax with friends. Tickets are on sale in the Old Cafe the week prior to the event, which is typically held on a Friday night.

Jeopardy

Mu Alpha Theta annually holds a jeopardy contest where Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores compete against each other. Jeopardy takes place during Homecoming week. Students elect three contestants from their class to compete against contestants from the other classes. Points are awarded to each class for homecoming depending on whether they place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

Clash of the Smart People

Clash of the Smart People is a two day competition between teams of students and teachers. A prelimanary round is the Thursday night before the actual competition in the Academic Pit. During the preliminary round, student teams will go through a written round followed by a scholastic-bowl type round to get the spot as the team to go against the teachers the next day during midday (Friday). Be sure to attend an exciting math between teachers and students to determine which who is smarter!

Junior High Math Contest

Middle schools from all around Illinois bring seventh and eighth grade students to IMSA to demonstrate their mathematical ability in an day-long math contest. Students compete in individual events, team events, and the creative thinking event. If you are an IMSA student interested in helping for community service, contact the publicity chair or the JHMC chair (see Contact).
