In the year 2008 the team moved to the engineering classroom as a permanent workspace. The team had also managed to double in size. Because our team had so many enthusiastic members our team managed to make fantastic growth during the year. Many students decided to work on independent research projects to learn about things that would ultimately help our team during the year. Some students researched how to use CAD and make models of the robot before parts were cut with accuracy and precision. Other students learned about different drive bases and hybrid drive basses to widen the team’s options during the season. Our team’s sponsor, Caterpillar, also began to offer classes to our team on engineering topics to help us get prepared for the build season. Due to the first week of the build season being considered a class at our school our team was able to work for an entire week without having to worry about school work and a lot was accomplished. In addition our team began to work on helping spread the message and awareness of FIRST in our community. We presented to the Oswego and Oswego East highschools and to the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology. We also assisted the Oswego highschool in starting their team so that they could compete that year. Our team also participated in the Flapjack robotics competition hosted by Winnovation. The year of 2008 was a significant year of growth for our team.
